RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged child sex crime and have made an arrest.
The Riley County Police Department reported on Saturday that just before 3:30p.m. June 3, the Johnson County Sheriff's Department arrested 22-year-old Matthew Daniel Smith of Overland Park while he was in Manhattan for an alleged sex crime.
Deputies booked Smith on a $100,000 bond into jail in Johnson County on requested charges of rape of a victim under the age of 14, according to the report. He is no longer in custody. Authorities released no additional details Saturday.
