HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Join the Hutchinson Art Center on Saturday, Nov. 16 for make-and-take art classes at the Hutchinson Art Center.

This is an opportunity for children aged 6 through 12 to create their own work of art!

Students will be divided into two groups: Group A from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Group B from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with each group covering different skills. Each group art class costs $8 per child.

November's theme is Night and Light!

We will soon experience the time change that brings on darkness sooner and makes nights longer so the artists are getting ready for a nighttime adventure with this “Flashlight Fantasia” project!

Groups A and B will draw a magical nightscape filled with nocturnal creatures using black sharpies on a transparent sleeve. Then, students will watch as their artwork comes to life when they slip in a black paper backdrop and use their own paper flashlight to cast a glowing beam of light across their scene. This creative journey lets students light up their imagination and see their nighttime world shine brightly! Students will be introduced to a variety of real nocturnal animals, practice drawing figures and landscapes using pencil first, then tracing with sharpies. Students will design and color their own flashlight, using scissors and glue to assemble.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to sign up their child for either Group A or Group B depending on skill level and interest. In general, the Group A project is simpler and aimed toward children aged 6-7, while the Group B project is a bit more complex and is aimed toward children aged 8-12.

You can register online. Registration is limited to 15 students/group per month and closes Friday, November 15th at 5:00 p.m.
