The Newton Police Department said on Wednesday evening that they have confirmed the possible school threat was a social media post from out of the state, and did not involve schools in Newton, Kan.&nbsp;

The department says there is no direct threat towards USD 373.

NEWTON, Kan. — Parents may have noticed some additional police presence at Newton schools this morning. 

Since early this morning, we have been investigating a possible threat of violence posted to social media over the weekend. We were alerted to the post late last night, and officers were posted at every school today as a precaution for students' safety. 

We now believe this threat may have originated in a different state. We continue to interview students, and the investigation is ongoing, but the threat is unsubstantiated at this time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Newton police gives all clear for 'unsubstantiated threat'
