MCPHERSON, Kan. (AP) — The Hutchinson High girls and boys basketball teams wrapped up their runs at the McPherson tournaments Saturday, with the girls finishing sixth in the Mid-America Classic and the boys placing fourth in the McPherson Invitational.

Girls recap:

Hutchinson held a narrow lead at halftime but could not close out Shawnee Mission East, falling 47-41 in the consolation bracket fifth-place game of the Mid-America Classic.

The Salthawks led 21-20 at the break before the Lancers took control in the second half and sealed the win at the free-throw line down the stretch.

Ava Krone led Hutchinson with 12 points and six rebounds, shooting 4 of 5 from the field and a perfect 4 of 4 from the free-throw line. Danai Morgan added 10 points for the Salthawks.

Shawnee Mission East was paced by Paige Stanfield, who scored a game-high 18 points.

Tenley Keeton was named to the All-Tournament team.

Boys recap:

In the McPherson Invitational third-place game, Hutchinson battled shorthanded but was eventually worn down by Overland Park Blue Valley, which pulled away late for a 44-29 victory.

The Salthawks, playing without three players who left the team for personal reasons, stayed within striking distance through three quarters. Blue Valley closed the game with an 11-3 run in the final period to secure the win.

Junior Lamar Govain led Hutchinson with 18 points, while Larry Jeremiah Jr. added eight. Enock Rodriguez paced the Tigers with 14 points.

Lamar Govain was named to the All-Tournament team.

Hutchinson will return to action Tuesday when both teams travel to Maize to face Maize South.
