DODGE CITY, Kan. — No. 1 Hutchinson (17-1, 11-1) saw its 54-game winning streak come to an end at No. 3 Dodge City (16-2, 11-1) Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons scored a season-low seven points in the third quarter as the Conquistadors built a 44-28 advantage.
Hutchinson trailed by just two at halftime despite going 2-of-17 from beyond the arc. Dodge City was not much better from distance in the first 20 minutes, hitting just 3-of-15 from deep.
The Conquistadors found the range in the second half by knocking down 8-of-14 attempts from distance while the Dragons went 0-for-10.
Shorna Preston's double-double led the way for Dodge City. She finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Hailey Jackson paced Hutchinson with 17 points and seven rebounds. Madi Denison scored eight points and snagged 12 boards.
Hutchinson turned the ball over 19 times.
