HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Doctors Park in Hutchinson, part of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System is adding a Hematology and Oncology Clinic.

"One of the specialists that we're bringing in, she'll actually be here in July, is Dr. Sawsan Amireh, who is actually a Hematology Oncologist," said Chuck Welch with the hospital. "That's a big word, but essentially she's a blood and cancer doctor."

There are really three main types of oncologists.

"There's medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical cancer treatments," said Welch. "She is the medical oncologist, so if you think of people getting infusions, chemotherapy, different types of bloodborne diseases, clotting disorders, that's all of what Dr. Amireh treats."

She'll start taking appointments in August and the new clinic, like all hospital facilities, will take COVID-19 precautions.

"We've seen too much collateral damage caused by this disease, part of that being people putting off heart attacks, strokes, all of the warning signs that we've been teaching about for the last 100 years, people are ignoring them because of their fear of the virus. We're really stressing, pleading with people that we have a COVID-safe environment."

Contact your primary care physician with any concerns you may have, as some insurance companies will require a referral to use Dr. Amireh's services.
