
SHAWNEE COUNTY—There were no injuries in a fire early Thursday in Topeka.
Just after midnight, fire crews responded to a fire in a home at 1628 SW Harrison Street in Topeka, according to Fire Marshall Todd Harrison.
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the single story residence. Firefighters began an offensive fire attack, keeping it confined to the structure of fire origin.
A Topeka Fire Department Investigation Unit responded to this incident and determined the fire was intentionally set.
The estimated dollar loss – $6,500.00; of which $6,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $500.00 associated with contents loss. The structure was vacant at the time of the fire. Working smoke detectors were not located within the residence, according to Harrison.
