The Dillon Nature Center is launching a new series of adult-focused nature education classes this summer and fall, offering participants opportunities to explore Kansas wildlife, weather and conservation topics through hands-on learning experiences.

According to Hutch Rec, the new “Adult Nature Education” series will be led by Education Coordinator Ethan Huston at the Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson. Organizers say the classes are designed to help adults “see nature in a whole new light” while encouraging curiosity and outdoor connection.

The series is open to ages 16 and older. Registration costs $10 for members and $15 for non-members, except for the Monarch Tagging program, which is listed as free.

The first session, “Summer Storm Watching,” is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 from 1 to 2 p.m. Participants will learn about the science behind summer storms and their effects on the landscape, wildlife and weather patterns.

A second class, “Moths After Dark,” will take place Friday, July 10 from 9 to 10 p.m. The evening program will focus on nocturnal insects and the diversity of moth species that emerge after sunset.

Later in the summer, “Wetlands Conservation” is planned for Saturday, Aug. 29 from 1 to 2 p.m. The session will explore Kansas wetlands, native plants and wildlife, while discussing the importance of conservation efforts.

The final program in the series, “Monarch Tagging,” is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will assist with collecting migration data on monarch butterflies by capturing, tagging and releasing them as part of a community science effort connected to Monarch Watch.
