WICHITA, Kan. — Two Sterling High School student-athletes have been named finalists for major awards that will be presented at the 2026 Greater Wichita Sports Banquet.

Chelsie Brown is one of three finalists for the Lynette Woodard High School Female Athlete of the Year award, joining Andale’s Rylee Meyer and Kapaun Mt. Carmel’s Courtney Nye.

Brown capped her Sterling tennis career with a second consecutive Class 3-2-1A state singles championship, finishing her senior season with a 33-0 record. She ended her high school career with a 120-14 mark and won her final 70 matches. Brown also represented Team USA at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo, earning a bronze medal in women’s doubles.

Zane Farney is one of three finalists for the Barry Sanders High School Male Athlete of the Year award, along with Kapaun Mt. Carmel’s Daniel Enriquez and Mulvane’s Manny Myers.

Farney helped lead Sterling to a state football championship during his senior season. He rushed for 2,300 yards in 2025 and finished his career with 6,700 rushing yards and more than 90 touchdowns. Farney, who earned multiple all-state selections during his career, plans to play football at Dordt University.

The finalists were nominated by area athletic directors and narrowed down by a panel of local sports media members.

The winners will be announced during the Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on Thursday, June 25, at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita. The banquet begins at 6 p.m., with the awards program scheduled for 7 p.m.
