The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College Community College men’s golf team will get a lot of first looks on Tuesday and Wednesday at the NJCAA National Preview in Newton.
Of course, the Blue Dragons will get to play the 2023 home of the NJCAA Men’s Division I Golf Championships, Sand Creek Station in Newton.
Secondly, the Blue Dragons will play against six other members of the current NJCAA Division I Top 10 and 12 total teams ranked in the national rankings.
The 54-hole tournament begins on Tuesday with 36 holes – the opening round starts at 8:30 a.m. and the second round is at 1:30 p.m. The final round begins at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. All three rounds will be shotgun starts.
The two-time defending national champion Blue Dragons will be paired with No. 2 New Mexico Junior College and No. 10 McLennan in the first round rounds on Tuesday.
Also in the field includes No. 4 Western Texas, No. 7 Odessa, No. 9 Dodge City, No. 11 Iowa Western, No. 12 Indian Hills, No. 13 Garden City, No. 14 Ranger, No. 17 McCook and No. 18 Eastern Wyoming.
The Blue Dragons come off a second place finish at the Samuel Proal Invitational last week in Pueblo, Colorado.
All-American Dominic Clemons led the Blue Dragons with a fourth-place finish.
The group of players who will figure in the scoring for Hutchinson is Clemons, sophomore Blake Saffell, freshman Alex Lindstrom, freshman Louis Ross and freshman Louis Galvin. Sophomore Addison Alonzo and freshmen Langstraat and Brooks Sauder will play as individual players.
