James Lee Porter, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022. He was born in Newton, August 11, 1977 to Mary Elizabeth (Daniels) Porter and the late Gerald Whisler Junior. He lived in Sedgwick early in life, yet grew up in Valley Center, where he started painting cars in his mom’s garage at age 14. He attended schools in both Sedgwick and Valley Center.
James was the owner of a used car dealership which he ran for almost 20 years. He always had a heart of gold helping the poor, the homeless, and especially economically disadvantaged. He once got a piece of mail by mistake and used it to help reunite two old war buddies from 50 years ago. He was a very talented car painter and mechanic. He was also a very talented and gifted artist. He was an avid pilot with a great love to fly. He also loved antiques. He was very close to his dogs. His absolute greatest love was to be with his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Whisler Junior and his grandparents Ella Mae Whisler, and Robert and Norma Daniels.
James is survived by his mom, Mary Porter, his adoptive dad, Michael C Porter; his fiance, Madi Hernandez of Wichita; his brother Chris Porter, of Valley Center; his children Ashley, Michael, Elizabeth, Jasmine, and Storm of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; grandfather Gerald L Whisler, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
