A preliminary investigation indicates the van was stopped while waiting for a westbound semi-truck that was preparing to turn south from U.S. 50. The motorcycle then struck the rear of the van at a high rate of speed, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The van’s two occupants were treated at the scene and released.

U.S. 50 was reduced to one lane while authorities investigated the crash. The highway has since fully reopened.

The crash remains under investigation. The deceased man’s identity will be released after his family has been notified.
