
Darryl Ammons, 81, of Hutchinson, died May 3, 2021, at his home. He was born January 13, 1940, in Pampa, Texas to Carl and Bennie (Oliphant) Ammons.
Darryl graduated from high school in Pampa in 1958, and went on to earn his associate’s degree at Decatur Baptist College. He worked in the oil and gas industry as a field operations director for ConocoPhillips. Darryl was a member of Crosspoint Church, Hutchinson. He loved to read and visit with his friends and family. Darryl enjoyed attending athletic events for his children and grandchildren. He had the gift of encouragement, uplifting anyone who he came into contact with, even those who were there to care for him.
On September 17, 1960, Darryl married Dorothy Nell Pitts in Pampa, Texas. They shared 60 years together.
He is survived by: wife, Dot Ammons, Hutchinson; daughter, Shanda Wilkens (Scott), Hutchinson; sons, Bruce Ammons (Ruthie), Houston, Texas, Gregg Ammons (Tinese), Lubbock, Texas, and Shawn Ammons (Cheryl), Conway Springs; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Diane Studebaker (Harold), Allenreed, Texas; and nephew, Derek Studebaker (Jolene), Amarillo, Texas.
Darryl was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
