🏐 HutchCC sweeps Pratt for 32nd straight win against Beavers

Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team hit .316 and extended its winning streak over Pratt to 32 matches on Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

Led by three players with double-figure kills, the Blue Dragons rolled to a 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 Jayhawk Conference victory over the Beavers.

The Blue Dragons improved to 12-13 overall and 4-6 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons play at Colby on Saturday. Pratt is now 11-17 overall and 2-7 in the league.

Hutchinson hit a Jayhawk-Conference season-high .316 with 51 kills on 114 attacks. Pratt hit .162 with 34 kills on 111 attacks.

Sophomore Alondra Villanueva had a match-high 13 kills, hitting .333 on 27 swings. Villanueva added eight digs and one solo block.

Sophomore Jaylynn McNeill hit a career-high .400 with 12 kills on 24 attacks and no errors. She had three total blocks.

Sophomore Kierny Follmer had 11 kills on .450 hitting. Freshman Lauren Vazquez had eight kills. Freshman Mattie Galliher had four kills and four blocks.

Freshman setter Alexandra Garcia had 40 assists and nine digs. Freshman libero Clara Oliveira finished with 12 kills and freshman defensive specialist McKenzye Williamson added 10 digs.

The Blue Dragons out-blocked Pratt 6-4 and out-dug the Beavers 54-39.

SET 1: The Blue Dragons hit .379 in the opening set, while holding Pratt to .030 hitting. Villanueva had five kills in the set. The Dragons jumped out to a 7-4 lead after a Vazquez/Galliher double block. Leading 16-12 and extended the lead to seven with a Galliher/Garcia double block and back-to-back kills from Villanueva. The Dragons opened a set-high eight-point led at 21-13 after a McNeill kill. The Dragons closed out the set with a Follmer kill to defeat Pratt 25-16.

SET 2: Tied at 7, the Dragons scored three-straight on a McNeill kill, Garcia kill and Vazquez kill. Pratt tied the set at 13 and again at 16, but the Blue Dragons outscored Pratt 9-3 over the final 12 rallies. Villanueva had five kills, while Follmer and McNeill had three kills each as Hutchinson hit .341 in the second set.

SET 3: Trailing 9-8, the Blue Dragons took the lead for good with a 4-0 run that was started by a Follmer kill and ace serve. Three kills by McNeill were a part of 5-1 run that gave the Dragons a 17-12 lead. Pratt wouldn't go easily and trailed the Dragons 17-15. A Pricilla Raschen ace served capped a 4-1 run to give the Dragons a 22-16 lead. Pratt scored on 7 of the next 9 rallies to pull within 24-23, but a Follmer kills closed out the match.
