๐Ÿ€ Derby uses huge 2nd period to sink Salthawk Girls

DERBY, Kan.โ€”For a momement in the 2nd quarter, the Hutchinson Salthawk girls were able to close the gap to only trail the #4 team in class 6A, 13 to 10, but then Derby totaly dominated the next 4 minutes to go to the locker room at halftime with a 37 to 12 lead, and that was all they needed. Derby blitzed the Salthawks 57 to 23 to win their 15th straight over Hutchinson.

Hutchinson only was able to generate enough offense to score 7 points in the first quarter and 5 in the 2nd. Then they were held to 2 third quarter points while Derby put 24 points on the scoreboard in the 2nd and 18 points in the 3rd to initiate a running clock in quarter 4.

Josie McLean led Hutchinson in scoring with 7 points, followed up by Grace Posch with 5 and Aliyah Green scored 4 points.

Derby's leading scorers were Destiny Smith with 21, and 18 for Iowa State commit Addy Brown. Jaden Wilson also contributed 7.

The Salthawks did hold the Panthers to on 2 points in the 4th quarter when Derby had mostly reserves in the game at the time.

Next action for Hutchinson (8-1) will be at the Shawnee Heights tournament in Topeka on January 26th.  The seedings for that tournament will be released next Monday.
