Raymond Wesley Thiessen, 94, of Buhler, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler. He was born on October 30, 1926, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Isaac and Anna (Neufeld) Thiessen.
He attended schools at Inman and Buhler. Raymond served in the United States Army during the Korean War as an infantryman and was honorably discharged. After serving in the military, he moved back to the farm and helped farm with his dad for many years. Raymond later went on to work for Hesston Corporation.
Raymond met Edith Evelyn VanZandt and were married on August 11, 1971 and made Buhler their home. She passed away on February 1, 2007. They enjoyed 35 ½ years of married life.
He liked old western movies and loved horses. Raymond and Evelyn enjoyed spending time outdoors together camping and fishing.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Enid Cady, Linden Thiessen, Marsha Bouse, Jan Utech, Johnnie Peters, Marlin Peters, Gaylene Peters, Glen Peters, Diane Ediger, and Joetta Ediger; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn; two brothers, Jacob and Nick Thiessen; three sisters, Mary Thiessen, Sara Ediger, and Elizabeth Peters; and nephew Donald Ediger.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community, Buhler. Private burial will take place at Zoar Cemetery, Inman, Kansas. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, at Buhler Mortuary.
