Overloaded cord likely cause of Thursday fire

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Fire Crews responded to 4302 Foothill Drive at 6:23 a.m. Thursday for a reported structure fire. Reports from dispatch advised all occupants were out of the structure.

The first arriving unit reported smoke from the garage and attic area, initiating an aggressive fire attack with additional arriving units completing search, utility disconnect and overhaul functions.

Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly with fire damage being contained to the garage area of the home. Following investigation, the fire cause was determined to be an overloaded extension cord.

The Hutchinson Fire Department was assisted by Reno County EMS, Kansas Gas, and Evergy.
