
SALINA, Kan. — Defending Class 2A state champion Moundridge is headed back to the state semifinals.
The No. 2-seeded Wildcats pulled away in the second half Tuesday to defeat Valley Heights 63-48 in the Class 2A girls state quarterfinals at Tony’s Pizza Events Center.
Moundridge improved to 24-2 and advanced to Thursday’s state semifinal, where it will face No. 6 seed Salina Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. at White Auditorium on the Emporia State University campus in Emporia.
Valley Heights finished its season 19-8.
Moundridge led 14-10 after the first quarter and took a 27-24 advantage into halftime before creating separation after the break. The Wildcats outscored Valley Heights 17-10 in the third quarter and 19-14 in the fourth to seal the 15-point victory.
