State officials are urging Kansans to use paper voter registration forms after the state's online voter registration system became unavailable amid a widespread outage affecting Kansas Department of Revenue systems and websites.
According to state officials, the outage has lasted approximately 24 hours and has impacted all Kansas Department of Revenue online services. The disruption comes just ahead of the Monday, June 1 deadline for voters wishing to change their political party affiliation before upcoming elections.
The online voter registration system is a joint effort between the Kansas Secretary of State's Office and the Kansas Department of Revenue. The system uses Department of Revenue records to verify voter identities and help prevent fraudulent voter registrations.
Because the online system remains unavailable, voters needing to register or change their party affiliation are being directed to complete a paper application instead.
Officials said paper voter registration and party affiliation change forms are available through the state's voter information website, Vote Kansas. Completed forms must be submitted to a local election office or the state office by noon Monday to meet the party affiliation deadline.
