Harold S. Cheatum, 90, of Hutchinson, died August 3, 2021, at his home. He was born December 16, 1930, in Kingman to William and Ruth (McRae) Cheatum.
Harold graduated from Kingman High School in 1948. He went on to serve in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954, during the Korean conflict. Harold was the manager of Pittsburg Paint for 26 years and then owned The Furniture Stripper for 11 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1361. He was a member of USS Ingersoll Veterans and he and Shirley attended almost every reunion. Harold was also a participant in the 2014 Kansas Honor Flight and has his name listed on the veteran’s memorial in South Hutchinson. Harold was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
On June 2, 1957, he married Shirley Ann Voss, in Lyons. They shared 64 years of marriage.
Harold is survived by: wife, Shirley Cheatum; Hutchinson; daughter, Brenda Emmerich (Kevin), Hutchinson; daughter, Carolyn Beeler (DeWitt), Phoenix, AZ; brother, Richard Cheatum, Quincy, IL; grandchildren, Ashley Emmerich (Alex Millison), Courtney Emmerich (Kevin Pederson), Jordan Beeler (Devin Roloff); one step-grandson; four step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at First United Methodist Church, 101 E. First Ave, Hutchinson. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Private family burial will follow in Hoosier Cemetery, Kingman. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
