NEWTON, Kan. — A woman was injured in a fire in Newton Christmas Eve morning.
According to a Facebook post, Newton firefighters were called to an apartment at 217 Muse around 3 a.m. Thursday for an automatic fire alarm.
Responding crews saw smoke coming from the apartment and removed a woman, who was then taken to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire inside the original apartment and no other tenants were displaced. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
