The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will begin a pavement overlay project on U.S. 50 in Reno County on Monday, Sept. 22. The $3.8 million project is designed to improve the road surface and extend the pavement’s service life.

Work will cover approximately 16 miles, stretching from the Stafford/Reno County line east to South Sego Road.

Traffic through the construction zone will be directed by flaggers and a pilot car. KDOT officials warn motorists to be prepared for delays of up to 15 minutes, as well as the need to slow down and stop when traveling through the area.

APAC-Kansas, based in Hutchinson, is serving as the prime contractor. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by the end of November.

For real-time road conditions, travelers can visit kandrive.gov or call 511. Updates on construction projects in South Central Kansas are available at ksdot.gov/projects/south-central-kansas-projects.
