TOPEKA — The state championship dominance of schools like Bishop Miege is at least on the table to be discussed by the State Board of Education and the Kansas Legislature. The State Board of Ed hearing is now scheduled for August 10 at 9:20 a.m. and will be held in the boardroom in the Landon Office Building in Topeka.
The classifications from 4A and down voted in favor of a proposed change that would introduce a multiplier for successful private schools that would inflate their enrollment number for classification purposes, 5A and 6A did not vote in favor.
Kansas High Schools voted 216 to 139 to make the change.
Those wishing to testify about the proposal at the hearing, either orally or in writing, must register with Barbara Hughes, the executive secretary of the State Board of Education, by sending an email to [email protected] or a letter to State Board of Education, Landon State Office Building, 900 SW Jackson St., Suite 102, Topeka, Kansas. Registrations and written testimony must be received no later than 5 p.m. Fri. Aug. 5 at the above email or street address.
When requesting to speak, include the speaker’s name, organization represented, if any and identify as a proponent, opponent or neutral on the proposed rule change.
To make this change, the identifying statutes need to be approved by both the SBOE and the Legislature prior to implementation.
