HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Republican County Commission District 5 primary winner Don Bogner wants to be sure that the county is fair to its rural areas.
"Traditionally, we get taxed and most of the money ends up other places," Bogner said. "We need to be included in that distribution of funds when it comes back in the rural areas. That's what I saw. We had, the way it was shaping up, no representation. They were, granted, good people, but they were all from the same area."
Bogner understands that the job of commissioners is to make sure the County Administrator is doing what they need to, but otherwise to leave it in their hands.
"Either you're going to be a full-time manager and be there every day, or you go to the form of government we currently have in Reno County, where you have an administrator and he takes care of the day to day," Bogner said. "The only downfall that you've got to be careful of in that kind of deal is you've got to make sure the information you're getting is complete."
Bogner believes that being sure that things are fair, no matter the size of your concern, is important.
"I do believe that all companies should be treated the same, no matter how big a project or small," Bogner said. "If you're going to come in to this county, you need to abide by our rules and our laws. Some of the things that have happened recently haven't quite been done that way."
