HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Commission chair Ron Hirst believes the joint meeting between the Hutchinson City Council and the commission Tuesday is important.

"We need to do that," Hirst said. "We need to meet you know, once or twice a year or however it's needed."

Hirst believes the differences regarding the shooting range can be resolved.

"We can come up with something reasonable that we can both utilize," Hirst said. "Irregardless about the shooting range, folks, you are protected. We are backing police and sheriff and they continue to work together regarding your safety. That's the important thing."

Hirst doesn't see the training needs between the two departments as being so different that they can't still use a joint facility, but the Tuesday meeting at 11:30 a.m. should help clarify some of those matters for all concerned.
