
Sue Ann Franko, 76, of Hutchinson, died April 11, 2021, at Hospice House. She was born November 13, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Sam and Marian Williams.
Marian died when Sue was five years old and Violet Morgan cared for her and legally adopted her after Sam’s death.
Sue graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962 and Emporia State Teacher’s College in 1966. She taught physical education at Sherman Middle School for 6 years until her daughters were born. Sue then did substitute teaching and volunteered at the Cosmosphere. She then ran Dr. Goddard’s Lab at the Cosmosphere for many years. Sue directed the Red Cross swimming program in Hutchinson for many years. She also worked at the Kansas State Fair, first in concessions and then as director of the Professional Art Building. Sue enjoyed wheat-weaving and traveling to craft shows with her family.
On June 16, 1967, she married James R. ‘Jim’ Franko in Hutchinson. He survives.
Also surviving are: daughters, Jennifer Viel (Tom) of Winnebago, IL, and Kristine Franko of Edgerton, WI.; grandchildren, Amber and Hunter Egelhoff of Jerseyville, IL, Luke and Anna Viel of Winnebago, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a half-sister.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed.
