HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Today, August 1st, the City of Hutchinson honors Emancipation Day.

This week, the Emancipation flags are proudly flying here in Hutchinson.

Emancipation Day marks the end of forced servitude and the beginning of true independence. The Emancipation flags are a powerful symbol of support, alliance, and commemoration for those who made Hutchinson their home upon receiving liberation.

They also represent the ongoing solidarity between our City and community, and our continued commitment to fighting for social freedoms.

Hutchinson has been celebrating Emancipation Day since 1889.
