John Dooley Martin was born in Winfield, Kansas on September 30, 1942. Passed away on June 7, 2022 from Fort Dodge.
John was the son of John Byron Martin and Eva Ruth Dooley.
A lifelong Kansas resident, he joined the Kansas Army National Guard and served 23 years with the units in Augusta, Dodge City and Garden City. He retired with the rank of 1st Sergeant.
John grew up tinkering on cars. He became a Ford mechanic and worked at Ford dealerships. He had a knack for it and people would call him from all over the state to help diagnose issues for repairs.
John married first to Sharon Neufeld. They had 3 daughters: Kimberly, Connie, and Lisa. John and Sharon divorced in 1981. John married Patty Henson (nee Randall) and became a father to her 2 young daughters, Lorna and Debbie. They were married almost 39 years before Patty passed away in 2021.
John spent many years working in the pits on dirt track sprint cars for Evert “Pappy” Isaac’s 6 & 8 Speed Shop in Dodge City.
John was preceded in death by his parents and sister, his grandparents, Joseph and Latillie Martin and Clinton and Mabel Dooley. He is also preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Lorna Henson and a greatgranddaughter, Lejand.
John is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Converse and her husband, Dan; Connie McGee and her husband, Lance; Lisa Towns and her husband, John; and Debbie Henson; along with 12 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren.
Memorial services will be Saturday July 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta, burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.
