🏐 Blue Dragons sweep pair of foes at Eastern Wyoming Classic

TORRINGTON, Wyoming – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team hit .287 and .341 in two sweeps on Saturday to complete the Eastern Wyoming Classic with a 3-1 record.

The Blue Dragons defeated Eastern Wyoming 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 27-25) early Saturday morning, then defeated Colorado Northwestern 3-0 in dominant fashion (25-13, 25-8, 25-13).

Hutchinson, now 9-7 returns to conference action against Seward County at 6 p.m. Wednesday and the Blue Dragon Volleyball Classic next Friday and Saturday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

EASTERN WYOMING RECAP
Sophomore Alondra Villanueva hit a season-high .500 with 12 kills on 22 attacks to lead the Blue Dragons against Eastern Wyoming.

The Blue Dragons won the first two sets and just before the beginning of the third set, play was stopped because fire alarms in the EWC Gym sounded and the building was evacuated. After an 18-minute delay, the match resumed.

Sophomore Atlyn Proctor had six kills in the third set and freshman Mattie Galliher added four kills to lead the Blue Dragons after the match resumed.

Proctor hit .250 on 28 attacks with 10 kills. Sophomore Jaylynn McNeill had nine kills on .250 hitting with a season-high three blocks.

The Blue Dragons had 41 kills, six blocks, three service aces and 61 digs.

Sophomore setter Angela Reupena had 23 assists and six digs. Freshman Alexandra Garcia had 18 assists and six digs.

Freshman libero Clara Oliveira had a team-high 13 assists.

COLORADO NORTHWESTERN RECAP
Four different Blue Dragons had six or more kills as the Blue Dragons earned their most decisive win of the season.

This was the first time the Blue Dragons held an opponent to 15 points or less in each set of a sweep since holding the Friends University JV to 8, 4 and 10 points on September 3, 2022.

Freshman Lauren Vazquez hit a match-high 10 kills on a season-high .533 hitting. Vazquez added eight digs.

Sophomore Priscilla Raschen had career highs of nine kills and a .389 hitting percentage with two total blocks. Sophomore Nathalia Ferreira had six kills on .363 hitting.

The Dragons had 42 kills and hit .341. They had six blocks and eight service aces.

Reupena had 26 assists, four digs and three service aces. Garcia had 16 assists. Oliveira had 22 digs two aces.
