Freddie “Vico” Mendoza Jr. |1940-2022|

Freddie “Vico” Mendoza Jr., 81, of Hutchinson, died February 6, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1940, in Hutchinson, to Freddie and Rafailia (Flores) Mendoza.

Freddie attended grade school in Partridge and then Junior High in Hutchinson and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1958. He attended Hutchinson Community College.

Freddie served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964. He worked as a jailer for the Hutchinson Police Department for a few years before going to work as a machinist at Cessna/Eaton and worked there until he retired. Freddie was a diehard Raiders and Yankees fan. He enjoyed long bike rides and spending time with his family, just watching his grandkids at play. Freddie was especially proud of their school activities and accomplishments. He was of the Catholic faith.

On July 14, 2000, Freddie married Charlotte Ann (Meyers) Hill, in Hutchinson. She survives.

Also surviving are: his children, Jesse Mendoza of Wichita, Carmen Macias (Andres) of Brownsville, TX, Jacki Mendoza of Hutchinson, Mario Mendoza of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Dominic Mendoza, Diego Macias, Lionel Macias, Kahlil Mendoza, Kylan Mendoza, Kade Mendoza, Damian Hernandez-Mendoza; siblings, Gloria Rodriguez of Dodge City, Ernie Mendoza (Toby) of South Hutchinson; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; siblings, Felix, Guadalupe, Margarito, Esteban, Carlos, Victor, and Linda Sanchez Hernandez.

Rosary will be 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with the family present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at Elliott Mortuary.
