WICHITA, Kan. — The Arkansas Travelers rallied late to defeat the Wichita Wind Surge 9-8 Sunday at Equity Bank Park in the finale of their six-game series.
The teams combined for 10 home runs, including four players with multi-homer games.
Wichita (26-31) hit four home runs and set a franchise single-season record with 175, surpassing the previous mark of 171 set in 2025.
Arkansas (25-32) struck first on Charlie Pagliarini's solo homer in the top of the first inning before Wichita tied the game in the bottom half on an RBI double by Garrett Spain.
Josh Hood put the Travelers back in front with a three-run homer in the second and added another solo shot in the fourth to make it 5-1.
Jake Rucker answered in the bottom of the fourth with his ninth home run of the season. The blast was Wichita's 172nd of the year, breaking the franchise record.
Jared Sundstrom extended Arkansas' lead to 6-2 with a solo home run in the sixth, but Wichita responded with six unanswered runs over the next two innings.
Luis Hernandez, Brandon Winokur and Rucker all homered in the seventh as the Wind Surge surged ahead 8-6. Hernandez's homer was his first at the Double-A level, while Winokur hit his 10th with Wichita and third of the week.
Rucker's second homer of the game gave him 10 for the season. It marked his fifth career multi-homer game and second this season.
Arkansas began its comeback in the eighth when Sundstrom hit his second home run of the day to cut Wichita's lead to 8-7.
Pagliarini completed the rally in the ninth, hitting his second homer of the game off Wind Surge reliever Mitch Mueller to put the Travelers ahead 9-8.
Teddy McGraw worked around a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth to close out the victory.
Preston Johnson provided four innings of relief for Wichita and allowed two runs. He finished August having surrendered four runs over 25 innings.
The Wind Surge finished the month with a 13-13 record and now have eight players with double-digit home run totals this season.
