Cecilia Ann Metheny, 89, of McPherson, passed away at 10:35 a.m., Tuesday, March 1st, while in the company of family, at her residence.
Cecilia was born in rural Logan, on March 15, 1932, a daughter of Rosa Elizabeth (Glennmeier) and Grover Cleveland Edgett.
Cecilia attended the District # 95 country school in Edmond, Kansas and graduated from Edmond High School, Edmond, Kansas in 1950.
Cecilia was united in marriage to Morris Elry Metheny on June 3, 1950 at Norton, Kansas. They established their first home together on a farm just North of Edmond. Through the years they lived in Lenora, Hays, back to Lenora, Hooker, Oklahoma, Sublette, Ellis, Goodland, Bazine, and Ness City before coming to McPherson.
Cecilia was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She worked as, a clerk for a dime store and a nurses aide for the Ness County Hospital and in McPherson she worked as a clerk for Montgomery Wards, the Cable office, and for the Treasure Chest Pawn Shop, all of McPherson. She also worked as a nurses aide for the Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson, Kansas
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 Ladies Auxiliary and on a local bowling team.
Cecilia enjoyed her family, friends, working in her flower garden, and bowling was one of her passions. She treated everyone as an equal and made everyone feel that they were important to her. She was Moma bear to all her kids, and was grandma to all her grandchildren and their friends. She never had a baby that didn't love her.
She is survived by her children, Tim Metheny, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, Son Jim Metheny and wife Peg, of McPherson, Rodney Metheny and wife Toni, of North Freedom, Wisconsin, Terry Metheny and wife Judi, of Milton, Washington, Vicki Wing and husband Clarence, of McPherson; and Camine Wieden and husband Mark, of Marquette, Kansas; 28 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Metheny; her parents; her brothers, Joseph, Leonard, Floyd, Henry, Louis, Norman Edgett; her sister, Alberta Metheny;and a great grandson, Issiah Malcom Metheny.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022 at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson, with Pastor Lacy Wheeler officiating.
Burial will be at Crestwood Memorial Park Cemetery New Gottland.
