A guardrail replacement project in Rice County on U.S. 56 will start around March 31, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Installation work will take place at two bridge locations about one-quarter mile apart on U.S. 56 – the first is between 10th Road and 11th Road and the second is just east of 11th Road.

The project is expected to last until around the end of May, weather permitting.

During the work, traffic will be guided with a temporary signal. Motorists should be prepared to slow down in the construction zone and traffic will be reduced to a single lane.

L & M Contractors Inc., of Great Bend, is the primary contractor for the $568,000 project.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit www.kandrive.gov or call 5-1-1. For updates on construction projects in South Central Kansas, visit https://www.ksdot.gov/projects/south-central-kansas-projects.
