No. 21 McPherson 48, Avila 7
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On a scorching hot day in south Kansas City, Avila football opened its season with a tough loss to No. 21 McPherson on Saturday afternoon, 48-7.
Avila had some momentum in the first half, but two interceptions from QB Joseph Vick resulted in seven Bulldog points.
McPherson put up nearly 600 yards of total offense and scored 20 first-half points before adding 28 in the second.
Avila was able to put together a six-play, 57-yard drive behind QB John Angelo in the fourth quarter to get on the scoreboard after Angelo ran a quarterback keeper from the one-yard-line late in the game.
Southwestern 48, Bethel 15
NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — Southwestern College piled up 685 yards of total offense, including 504 on the ground, as the Moundbuilders rolled past Bethel College 48-14 on Saturday night.
Southwestern's defense limited Bethel to 258 yards of total offense and just 55 yards on the ground.
