HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The positive test rate for COVID-19 in Reno County went down from last week to this week.

In numbers released on Thursday, the 14-day PTR is at 18.7%, which is roughly equivalent to where it was in both late October of 2020 and mid to late January of 2021.

The case count is up to 525, which is the highest active case number since between Christmas and New Year's of 2020.

The case count was 92 on August 2, and 525 on September 2, the 433 case growth is still slower than October to November of 2020.

Cases went from 159 on October 2, 2020 to 708 on November 2, 2020, a growth of 549 cases, but the August to September growth is still the largest single month case growth since the peak last winter.

Nevertheless the people who are dying are a lot fewer than back then.

There were 15 deaths in October of 2020, but just one reported in August of 2021.
