County wind regs pushed off to first meeting next year

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Board of Reno County Commissioners will wait until its first meeting of 2022 to finalize the wording of the zoning regulations that could potentially allow wind in roughly the western two-thirds of the county.

The commission has reached a consensus not to allow wind development in the areas that are currently zoned (green on the map), but still wants to work out some minor details on what would potentially be allowed in the areas that would be zoned only for the purpose of potential wind development (blue on the map).

It is the intent of the commission to hammer out those setbacks and regulations regarding shadow and flicker at its January 11, 2022 meeting.

Any application for a wind farm in the areas where it could happen would still need to go through the conditional use permit process.
