🏀 WBB: No. 8 Dragons fall on road

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — No. 8 Hutchinson (23-3, 17-3) shot just 29% in the first half and fell behind by as many as 16 points in the first 20 minutes to Cowley (17-9, 12-9).

The Tigers used a 10-0 run in the second quarter to build a 38-25 advantage at halftime.

Hailey Jackson played just 10 minutes and 39 seconds in the first half after picking up her second foul with 2:12 to play in the first quarter.

The Dragons only managed to make 5-of-25 three-point attempts (20%) and made only half of their 22 free-throw opportunities.

Meanwhile, Cowley hit 23-of-27 from the charity stripe and produced four double-digit scorers.

Hattie Pyle led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds. Alexcia Murphy posted her second double-double against the Dragons this season. She finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

Elysa Martinez (18) and Jaiden Smith (10) also finished in double digits for Cowley.

Pyle, Murphy, Martinez and Smith scored all but three of Cowley's points.

Madi Denison scored nine for Hutchinson as Landon Forbes struggled from the field. Forbes shot just 2-of-13, including 0-for-7 from distance.

The Dragons pulled within two multiple times in the fourth quarter, but a Katie Duncan foul and technical led to a four-point Tiger possession that put the game away with 3:07 to play.
