
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Police Department has confirmed that human remains discovered July 3, 2025 are those of Kimberly Dawn Barnes, a woman reported missing in July 2024.
In a statement released by Captain Gates, the department said, “Since the media release, our agency had been in contact with the family of Ms. Kimberly Dawn Barnes, an individual who had been reported missing in July 2024. After locating dental records for comparison, we have confirmed the deceased to be that of Ms. Barnes.”
The department added, “Based on the findings from the autopsy and the available evidence, there is currently no indication of criminal activity.”
The remains were first connected to a public plea for assistance on July 3, 2025. Police said they hope the identification brings peace to those who knew her.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ms. Barnes' family and friends during this difficult time, while hoping this confirmation provides them with some measure of closure,” the statement read.
