Betty Ann Dukes Chambers, 89 passed away on July 20th, 2021 in Cunningham, Kansas.

She was born June, 11th 1932 in Delaware County near Jay Oklahoma in Yellow Bird Holler. Betty was born to John Blake Dukes and Blanche (Walker) Dukes.

Betty married Lowell Andrew Chambers in December of 1950 in St. John Kansas. They were married for 19 years. Betty and Lowell resided in Cairo, Kansas. And to this union were born 6 children.

Betty was a homemaker up until the time of her husband’s death in 1969. The family moved to Pratt, Kansas in 1969. Betty was initially employed at Ruth’s Café and worked at various restaurants as a waitress for an extended period of time.

Betty subsequently moved into the health care field and began working at Siesta Homes. She began acquiring education and certifications related to the health care profession. Betty received her LPN from Pratt Community College in 1988.

She transitioned from Siesta Homes and began working as a private health care nurse during the 1990’s. Betty provided private health care services for numerous individuals during this time period.

Eventually Betty went to work as an LPN at the Haviland Assisted Living Facility in 2005. Betty continued to work as a nurse until she finally retired at the age of 84.

Betty had a quick wit. Her happy place was any clear cold river in the Ozarks. She loved gardening. She dedicated her life to taking care of people and she will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by a daughter, Tracy Chambers (Larry Preisser), and sons, Casey Chambers, Mickey Chambers, and Dave Kip Chambers (Janet) and Ryan Chambers. There are 9 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl, her husband, Lowell, a son, Bryan, and 2 grandchildren, Corey and Joshua.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6-8 at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021 at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt with John Hamm presiding. Burial will follow at Cairo Cemetery, Cairo, KS.
