Hutchinson Fire Department crews responded to a reported structure fire Friday morning in the 100 block of West Campbell Street.
Firefighters were dispatched at 9:43 a.m. and arrived to find light smoke coming from a small residential structure. Upon entering the home, crews located a smoldering electrical fire in the basement. The fire was quickly extinguished, and firefighters conducted a thorough search of the basement to ensure it had not spread through the floor joists.
Two occupants of the home had already made it outside safely before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
The fire was contained to a small area of floor joists in the basement, though smoke damage was reported throughout the home’s living space.
Hutchinson Fire expressed appreciation to partner agencies who assisted at the scene, including Kansas Gas, Evergy, Reno County EMS, Hutchinson-Reno County Emergency Communications, and the Hutchinson Police Department.
