Freshman forward Isabell Van Fleet scored a pair of goals and had a season-high five points to lead the No. 13-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team to a 5-2 Jayhawk Conference victory over Seward County on Saturday afternoon at the Salthawk Soccer Complex.
The Blue Dragons improved 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the KJCCC. The Blue Dragons look forward two another conference showdown at Butler Community College on Wednesday in El Dorado.
Van Fleet led the Blue Dragons with two goals and an assist.
The Blue Dragons dominated possession, fueled by three first-half goals and a commanding 24-3 shot advantage.
Poppy Smith, Maria Azevedo and Bessie Simpson all scored for the Blue Dragons. Smith added an assist for a three-point game. Isabela Puccinelli, Ava McAninch and Olivia Tamaki all registered assists.
Goalkeepers Evie Carvell and Rylee Loague split time in the net. Each keeper allowed a goal and Carvell had a save.
The Blue Dragons earned eight corner kicks to Seward County's four.
Simpson opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing off an assist from Puchinelli for a 1-0 Hutchinson lead.
After, Seward tied the match 1:23 later, the Blue Dragons responded with back-to-back goals from Van Fleet and Azevedo to take a 3-1 halftime lead.
Smith scored early in the second half and went on to have an assist for Van Fleet's second goal in the 85th minute.
The Blue Dragons are now 4-0-1 all-time against Seward County.
