Hutchinson Community College freshman catcher/designated hitter Anthony Mazza continued his torrid start to the season and was named the Jayhawk West Division I Baseball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Mazza, a freshman from Prairie Village, Kansas, recorded hits in all eight games Hutchinson played last week in going 6-2.
For the week, Mazza hit .567 (17 for 30) with five doubles, a home run, seven RBIs, and 13 runs scored. He now has a 13-game hitting streak to start the season.
Mazza had six multi-hit games, including a trio of three-hit games against Highland and Coffeyville (twice).
Mazza hit a walk-off extra-inning home run in the Blue Dragons' 4-3 win over Des Moines Area last Monday and was three-for-three with four RBIs in a 15-5 win over Coffeyville. Mazza is third in the nation in hitting with a .609 batting average.
