Dean Wesley Alstatt, 88, passed away July 28, 2022, at Diversicare of Hutchinson. He was born July 20, 1934, in Marquette, KS, to Herman O. and Gertrude (Burnison) Alstatt. At the age of three months, Dean’s mother passed way. His father married Florine Harris on October 29, 1938, and she became the only ‘mother’ that Dean would ever know.
He was a graduate of Marquette High School, Marquette, KS, and served in the United States Army. Dean worked as a lineman, an installer, and a repairman for Southwestern Bell Telephone, that later became AT&T Telecommunications Company. He was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Hutchinson, KS, the Pioneer Telephone Group, and Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.
Dean married Shirley M. Snell. She died December 23, 2000. On September 24, 2005, he married Judy R. Holmes-Cape, at the Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, KS.
He is survived by: his wife, Judy Alstatt of Hutchinson, KS; son, Allen ‘Booner’ Alstatt of Marquette, KS; siblings, Kasey (Beverly) Alstatt of McPherson, KS, Flora (Russell) Malm of Marquette, KS, Vernon (Joey) Alstatt of Manteca, CA, Charlotte Knackstedt of Marquette, KS, and Jayleen Sellhorn of Marquette, KS; stepchildren, Robert (Norma) Cape of Hutchinson, KS, Kelli (Jason) Beggs of Frisco, TX, and Jennifer (Scott) Parker of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Heather Cape, Madison Phelan, and Tanner Trezise; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by: his parents; ‘mom’, Florine Harris; mother of ‘Booner’, Shirley Alstatt; infant sister, Delores Alstatt; and brothers, Norman Alstatt and Stanley Alstatt.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, 300 W. 10th, Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Lisa Dale officiating. Burial will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022, in the Marquette Lutheran Cemetery, Marquette, KS. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2022, with the family present from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
