DERBY, Kan. (AP) — Jackson Schanuel blasted two home runs and drove in eight runs as the Hutchinson Monarchs erased an early four-run deficit and rolled past the Derby Twins 17-4 Tuesday night in Jayhawk Collegiate League action.

Schanuel's offensive outburst powered a Monarchs comeback that saw Hutchinson score 16 unanswered runs after trailing 4-0 through two innings.

Derby jumped in front in the first inning when an error allowed a run to score. The Twins extended the lead to 4-0 in the second on Jesse Saucedo's three-run home run to center field.

Hutchinson chipped away before taking control in the fifth inning. The Monarchs scored five runs on just two hits to seize a 6-4 lead, highlighted by Schanuel's grand slam to left field.

The Monarchs continued the offensive surge with five more runs in the sixth. Michael Barham drew a bases-loaded walk, Schanuel added an RBI single, Brice Wallar delivered a two-run double and Carter Hepner drove in another run with a groundout.

Hutchinson put the game out of reach with a six-run seventh inning. Schanuel capped his career night with a three-run homer to left, Wes Baker added an RBI triple, Brady Taylor forced in a run with a walk and James Dagenhart contributed an RBI single.

The Monarchs finished with 12 hits and drew 10 walks while improving to 6-1 on the season.

Schanuel and Wallar paced the offense with four hits apiece. Wallar added a double, stole four bases and scored multiple runs. Baker reached base consistently, drawing four walks as Hutchinson swiped five bases overall.

Cole Toureau started for the Monarchs and allowed four runs, none earned, on three hits over four innings while striking out three. Drew Dechant earned the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Josh Weaver took the loss for Derby after surrendering one run on four hits over four innings.

Saucedo led the Twins offensively, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Derby drew six walks but managed only four hits.

Hutchinson also turned two double plays defensively.

The Monarchs return home Wednesday night to host the Wichita Black Sox at Hobart-Detter Field for Eagle Media Night.
