Startup Hutch is expanding its support for entrepreneurs with a series of programs designed to help aspiring business owners launch companies, strengthen rural businesses and address Reno County's housing shortage, according to Program Manager Christopher Acker.

Speaking on the BW Morning Show, Acker said Startup Hutch's flagship EBB Jump Plus AI program will return this fall for its final cohort under the organization's leadership. The 12-week course is designed to guide participants from a business idea to a completed business plan while introducing new training on the use of artificial intelligence in business.

The program begins Aug. 24, with registration open through July 31. Participants will meet primarily on Monday evenings through a hybrid format that combines online instruction with several in-person sessions, including a resource fair and a business pitch competition. Those who complete the course and participate in the final pitch event will receive a $50 rebate on the $100 registration fee.

Acker said the course is intended for people who have an idea for a business but need guidance on topics such as market research, business planning and identifying potential customers. By the end of the program, participants will have a business plan they can present to lenders or investors.

The program also connects entrepreneurs with local attorneys, accountants, bankers and marketing professionals through a resource fair, giving participants an opportunity to build relationships with professionals who can support their businesses.

Startup Hutch is also preparing to launch a Housing Entrepreneurship Program on Oct. 7. Acker said the initiative is designed to help address the region's housing shortage by helping tradespeople and subcontractors develop the skills needed to operate successful construction-related businesses.

Instructor Jim Gruver will lead the program, which is geared toward individuals in building trades who want to establish or expand their own businesses rather than become general contractors. Acker said the goal is to increase the number of skilled builders and subcontractors available to construct new housing throughout Reno County.

In addition, Startup Hutch is accepting applications for Rural Business Resilience and Expansion Microgrants, which provide up to $2,500 to for-profit businesses in rural communities. Acker said the grants are intended to help businesses expand services that benefit their communities, such as adding access to fresh food in areas with limited grocery options.

Acker also highlighted Startup Hutch's monthly Entrepreneurship Connections networking series. The July event will feature Tonya Witherspoon, founder and CEO of Mindscapes, discussing technology and business development during a presentation at Sandhills Brewing.

Beyond educational programs, Startup Hutch also offers loan programs that provide gap financing for businesses working with local lenders.
