Carmel’s life began on January 16, 1949, in Marion. She was the daughter of Edward and Christine (Libal) Kotelensky. Carmel was a 1967 graduate of Marion High School. She was a true entrepreneur over the years. Carmel ran the Bakery in downtown Marion for many years and she owned and operated Country Flowers in Marion as well. Later in life, she decided to become a registered nurse and attended Butler Co. Community College School of Nursing earning her RN degree. Carmel worked at Marion Manor, and St. Luke’s Living Center where she retired as the nursing supervisor. Carmel married Fred Samples in 1976 and after 33 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in December of 2007. Carmel was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Reznicek in 2011 in Las Vegas. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Parish in Marion. Carmel enjoyed her bowling league in Marion and loved her cats. She loved the ocean and collected sea shells. She was also an avid antique collector and enjoyed shopping for the next new “old” treasure. Carmel is survived by her husband Bob Reznicek of Marion; children Dr. Michael (Marie) Barnett of Manhattan, and Christine Barnett of Iowa, and grandson Jonathan A. Barnett of Iowa. Carmel passed away on Monday November 22, 2021, at Salina Regional Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, and son Rodney Barnett. Her family will gather with friends on Saturday November 27th from 10-11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church-Holy Family Parish, Marion with her funeral Mass at 11 a.m. and Rosary prayers at 10:30 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.
