HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Thanks to bridge funding from the Hutchinson Community Foundation, the Salvation Army in Hutchinson is looking to add to their staff as they shift a current employee to be a full-time person in their Pathway of Hope program.

"It's case management," said Major Paul James with the Salvation Army. "It helps in the areas of helping people find housing, employment, education, helping people with legal issues and transportation. Actually, in the last five months, I think, we've had three cars donated and so we've been able to give those to some of the families that we help."

Their goal is to help 40 families in the Pathway of Hope program. This leaves a vacancy to assist those in need of emergency assistance.

"It's a little bit of everything," James said. "It's something that you obviously want to be good with people and be able to identify with people in their time of need and have compassion, but also hold them responsible, as well. Sometimes you have people that come in and it's not really an emergency situation. They just want you to pay their bills."

Striking the balance between giving those who need it a hand up and not turning it into a constant hand out is tough. For more information, call (620) 663-3353 or email [email protected].
