HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson water crews had to brave the cold weather Thursday to repair a ruptured water main. The water line break was reported near 5th and Hoagland at the time Hutchinson Fire was battle a structure fire in the area. The break was on a 6-inch water line that was installed in 1951 and left 32 customers without service.
Public Works Water Maintenance staff worked in extreme cold (-6° wind chill) and restored water to all customers by 3:00 p.m..
The Public Works Street Division assisted by adding salt to the road to help prevent any ice buildup caused by the main break.
One lane of East 5th Ave, west of Hoagland is still closed until a contractor makes repairs to the street. That is expected to be around January 24th.
