ARLINGTON, Kan. — Nitrate levels have risen above allowable limits in the city of Arlington, so they are issuing a drinking water warning for any household with members at increased risk from the nitrates, such as infants, nursing mothers, pregnant women, and other at-risk customers as identified by a health care provider.
The nitrate levels for the city as tested on Oct. 6 are at 12 mg/L, which exceeds the Kansas and Federal (EPA) maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10 mg/L for public water supply systems.
If you mix tap water 50/50 with bottled water it will cut the nitrates in half.
There is water available at the City Office at 900 West Main in Arlington for any household with members at increased risk from the nitrates.
