RILEY COUNTY , Kan.— A Sterling man was involved in a two-vehicle accident in Riley County Friday morning near the small town of Alma.
The Riley County Police Department reports that 65-year-old Scott Downing was going west on I-70 around 5:00 a.m. when he was hit by 30-year-old Tiffany Vargas, of Linn who crossed the center line of the westbound lanes and striking Downing's vehicle. After impact, Vargas' car crossed into the eastbound lanes and rolled.
EMS transported Vargas to Stormont Vail in Topeka for treatment of her injuries. Downing was not injured.
The accident closed off the westbound lanes of I-70 while authorities worked the accident. The highway reopened around 9 a.m. 4 miles north of Alma or about 15 miles southeast of Manhattan.
